Continuing the master's, taking in the new year, and more. Here is what's new and ongoing.
Now
The place to know what I'm up to. Great place to start if we haven't caught up in awhile.
This is a now page, inspired by Derek Sivers.
Late Summer 2026
Sun is out in full force, and so is another update on life.
Personal
I disappeared for a bit. Winter was great, Spring was a little mentally taxing.
- Finally started physical therapy for my lower back and leg. I have been limping. It has been three months. rahhh.
- Post-World Cup, kinda sad. Got to watch a few of the games at the bars around me in OC. So much excitement seeing Spain win, the bar was wild.
- The last time I visited Las Vegas was around a decade ago. Now, I’m old enough to drink and gamble. I didn’t gamble, but boy did I drink. Fat Tuesday, you have my heart. Also got to ride a Zoox for the first time. Woah, self driving.
- Living up to the Irvine stereotype by driving a Tesla now. Yes, the politics of a Tesla is very (eek!)… anyways. Supercharger network goes strong. Self-driving is very very nice. It helped me survive LAX a few times. Other than that, in a few years, maybe we’ll look into a Ioniq or Volvo (as ChatGPT has told me would be my car).
Academics
- New case study dropped. I spent Spring working on my research tool, Gazelle for a design class. A little user research here, a lot of vibe coding there for prototyping and testing. Take a look at it here.
- In parallel, over the summer, I’ve been working on the decision framework behind Gazelle, or GACIOD-R. This has involved combing through a lot of data, and me picking up a few books on design rational… and stats!
Work
- Continually working on a redesign of the PHIT website as the program sunsets. Don’t worry, the Health Informatics minor will remain.
- Also, doing content creation with the staff by highlighting students and staff of the department.
- No idea what’s next after this contract is over in September, so if you’re reading this and hiring, reach out! jnoromba (at) uci (dot) edu. No hyperlink to avoid spam, thanks! Portfolio on the main site.
Watching
- Law and Order: Special Victims UnitI've made it to Season 25! Mariska Hargitay continues to deliver amazing performances. Wondering when to start (the spinoff show) Organized Crime with Stabler.
- The TestamentsSmall twists and turns, with big things somewhat predictable. No telling where this is headed, but still excited for the second season. Good world building.
- The OdysseyBrings me back to ninth-grade English. Got to see it in IMAX 70mm, and it was worth it. A little loud though (likely just my ears though). Robert Pattinson, you know you're good when you're able to make me hate your character, so so much.
- Spiderman: Brand New DayHow does one handle grief and loss? How do you determine what is good or bad? These are some of the questions addressed in this post-who-is Peter Parker world. Watched it in 4DX and had my tortilla chips all over my seat at the end. Rewatched it without the 4DX and the emotional scenes did hit more.
Listening
- you seem pretty sad for a girl so in loveAh love, and everything else about it. When will Olivia Rodrigo get out of bed? But also, me too girl. I was hooked on every single, and even the SNL and Primavera Sound performances. By then, the expectations felt high, but she in fact delivered so well. Bought tickets to Daisy Chains and her tour!
- PUREFLOW (pt. 1)CELEBRATION wasn't for me, but BOOMPALA was. Saki, Trust Exercise, and iffy iffy are my favorite b-sides. Although HYBE's EDM phase is getting a little too much for me, I do find myself coming back every time. Cannot wait to see them perform live again in the future.
- John Daniel's CornerNo time to talk about the rest, so I'll direct you to this ever-so updating playlist.
