Now update

Late Summer 2026

Sun is out in full force, and so is another update on life.

Personal

I disappeared for a bit. Winter was great, Spring was a little mentally taxing.

  • Finally started physical therapy for my lower back and leg. I have been limping. It has been three months. rahhh.
  • Post-World Cup, kinda sad. Got to watch a few of the games at the bars around me in OC. So much excitement seeing Spain win, the bar was wild.
  • The last time I visited Las Vegas was around a decade ago. Now, I’m old enough to drink and gamble. I didn’t gamble, but boy did I drink. Fat Tuesday, you have my heart. Also got to ride a Zoox for the first time. Woah, self driving.
  • Living up to the Irvine stereotype by driving a Tesla now. Yes, the politics of a Tesla is very (eek!)… anyways. Supercharger network goes strong. Self-driving is very very nice. It helped me survive LAX a few times. Other than that, in a few years, maybe we’ll look into a Ioniq or Volvo (as ChatGPT has told me would be my car).

Academics

  • New case study dropped. I spent Spring working on my research tool, Gazelle for a design class. A little user research here, a lot of vibe coding there for prototyping and testing. Take a look at it here.
  • In parallel, over the summer, I’ve been working on the decision framework behind Gazelle, or GACIOD-R. This has involved combing through a lot of data, and me picking up a few books on design rational… and stats!

Work

  • Continually working on a redesign of the PHIT website as the program sunsets. Don’t worry, the Health Informatics minor will remain.
  • Also, doing content creation with the staff by highlighting students and staff of the department.
  • No idea what’s next after this contract is over in September, so if you’re reading this and hiring, reach out! jnoromba (at) uci (dot) edu. No hyperlink to avoid spam, thanks! Portfolio on the main site.
